Move Planner

Getting the most out of your move

Your move plan

Here at Bailey’s Moving and Storage, we don’t want you to worry about a thing on the big moving day. That’s why we’ve come up with a move planner that will make sure you’re prepared for moving day.

The moving checklist

There is so much to keep track of when you realize how many different things you have to move. How are you going to move the fish tank? What’s the best way to pack a mirror? Where should you get boxes? This is exactly why Bailey’s created a moving checklist, so that you could keep track of what needs to be done, as well as get answers to all of your toughest moving questions.

Here’s a summary of what’s included in the moving checklist:

  • When packing, make sure to take care of items that can’t be placed on the moving truck — flammables, cleaning supplies or anything perishable.
  • Anything that needs to be moved must be accessible to the mover (not in a crawl space), and not attached to any part of the house (ex. wall carpeting or shelving).
  • If you have items that need to be specially packed and loaded before the moving day, let your moving coordinator know so that we can arrange for those items to be taken care of (ex. waterbeds, pool tables, swingsets). Also see Specialty Moving Services for more information on how we can help you move these items.
  • Make sure all walkways and driveways are clear of snow, ice, or debris.
  • Take care of all appliances. Defrost refrigerators and freezers. Make sure washers, dryers and icemakers are disconnected and serviced prior to moving.
  • Any items you want to transport on your own — such as computer equipment, high-value items, or other belongings should be placed in a secured area and you should let the movers know not to move them.

Additional packing and moving tips

  • Before you start packing, figure out what you want to keep, give away or sell. Moving is a great time to sort through items you may no longer want. You’ll save time and money by not packing or unpacking unwanted items.
  • Always use professional boxes, cartons, and packing materials. Use industry strength tape for closing up boxes and make sure to label everything. Talk to your move coordinator if you are in need of any packing supplies.
  • To find the items you’ll need first when you’re unpacking, write "open first" on the box so you know exactly where to start.
  • Don’t forget to update your address and switch all carriers to your new home (phone, cable, internet).
