4-6 Weeks Before
- Get quotes from 2-3 moving companies
- Create an inventory of items to move
- Start decluttering and donating items
- Gather packing supplies (boxes, tape, markers)
- Research your new neighborhood
2-3 Weeks Before
- Book your moving company
- Confirm moving date and details
- Arrange utility transfers (electric, gas, water, internet)
- Submit change of address forms (USPS, banks, subscriptions)
- Begin packing non-essential items
Week of Move
- Finish packing non-essential rooms
- Confirm final walkthrough time with your agent
- Pack an essentials bag (toiletries, change of clothes, phone chargers)
- Clean and prepare home for new owners/inspection
- Defrost freezer if needed
Day Before
- Complete all packing
- Disassemble large furniture if needed
- Confirm arrival time with movers
- Charge all devices
- Prepare payment for movers
Moving Day
- Be present when movers arrive
- Do a final walkthrough before leaving
- Lock up and hand over keys as arranged
- Meet movers at destination
- Check items off inventory as unloaded
What to Expect on Moving Day
- Movers will arrive within your scheduled window
- Loading typically takes 2-4 hours depending on home size
- You'll receive a bill of lading to review and sign
- Payment is typically due upon delivery
