How does packing work?

Five steps, from the estimate to unpacking if you want it.

  1. Estimate

Your estimator walks the home with you and sees what needs packing, so the estimate counts the cartons.

  2. Packing plan

Choose full, partial or customer pack. You can hand the crew just the fragile rooms, like the kitchen.

  3. Packing day

Usually the day before loading, or a few days ahead for bigger homes. A small amount can be packed and loaded the same day.

  4. Labeling & inventory

  5. Unpacking, if you want it

    Unpacking is a separate service.

How is packing priced?

Per carton, with labor and materials in the carton price. Compare the total cost of the move, packing included, not a single rate.

Carton count
The number of boxes your home needs. Packing just the hard rooms means fewer cartons.
What is packed
Fragile and complicated items take more time, effort and material. A dish pack costs more to pack than a book box.
Per carton or hourly
Per carton is standard and usually the better deal. Hourly packing is available if you ask for it.
Unpacking
Priced separately from packing.
Protection
Full Value Protection is priced separately. It is not free; your estimator quotes it.

Is packing yourself cheaper?

Usually, yes. Packing your own boxes saves the carton price. The trade-off is liability: on boxes you pack, we are only liable for damage you can see from the outside, while on boxes our crew packs, we are liable for the box and everything inside it. That is why you might pack the books and linens themselves and let the crew handle kitchens, art and electronics.

What do packing customers say?

Public reviews from real customers that mention packing.

Our unpacking was done with Baileys and it was flawless. Pam and Linda did an excellent job. They were both very careful with our possessions but also extremely quick and efficient. I highly recommend them for your unpacking needs.

Armando, Jake, Cindy, and the moving and packing crews did a fantastic job on an interstate move (UT-CO). They packed a 3-bed, 2.5-bath residential home in a day, and by 3 pm the next day, it was all loaded into the truck. Every item arrived on time and in good shape at the destination. They were always helpful and attentive, offering an outstanding customer experience. I was initially tempted to use a cheaper service, but the quality and experience made it worth the cost. I would contract them again.

Beau & Erik were great! They helped us move our belongings into a storage unit after they had been stored at Bailey’s for two years. We didn’t have the best experience with the original crew who packed our things, so we were a little nervous going into it. Thankfully, Beau & Erik gave us a completely different experience. They were friendly, helpful, and made the whole process go smoothly. We really appreciated their help!

Packing questions

Short answers first, with a link when there is more to read.

How much does packing cost?

Packing is priced per carton, and the carton price includes labor and materials. The total depends on how many boxes you need and what goes in them: a dish pack costs more than a book box. Your estimator counts it in the written estimate.

How long does packing take?

Most homes are packed the day before loading, or a few days ahead for bigger homes. A small amount can be packed and loaded the same day.

Are boxes I pack myself covered?

Only for damage you can see from the outside of the box. If you pack a box and there is no visible damage to it, we are not liable for what happens inside. If our crew packs it, we are liable for the box and everything in it.

File a claim
Can you pack just part of my home?

Yes. With partial packing, the crew packs the rooms you choose and you pack the rest.

Do you unpack?

Yes, unpacking is available as a separate service.

Can I pack my own boxes on an international move?

No. International moves must be packed by our crew.
